Hey Guys ______ What “SHOULD” a 22re engine,5sp., idle at and, what would be the (HIGHEST EXEPTABLE) rpm, at idle? ? ? ? Also, just curios, what you guys idle at” and on what engines” and the ramifications of a 1000 rpm idle, if NOT corrected? ? ? ? It seems when my rpm’s are lower than 1000, when I come to a stop, the rpm’s start dipping and 50% of the time stall the engine._____ THANKS IN ADVANCE BAYRUNNER

Idle on a 22RE should be at 750 rpms, but if you've got a different cam with more lift oor duration it can suck your vaccum down and cause the engine to spit and sputter. Other than wasting more gas idling i don't see any major problems from a higher idle. Mine idles at 1000, but with the cam that's where it doesn't die if i just run the clutch out without pushing down the gas. before messing with the idle screw make sure the timing is set right and the valves are all gapped where they should be.

If it idles to high when in open loop (when its warmed up) then it will start hunting from 800 to 1500 rpm. Up down Up down. Read the sticky at the top of the page. Other then that just gas and extra wear on engine.

After a seafoam treatment my idle went from 600-700 to 1000-1100.. talk about a good way to see that seafoam works... but anyways, I left it up at 1000 because my alternator would shut off about 600rpms, and I didnt like that.. I even put a small pulley on the alternator to help to no avail...
Since its the same fuel it took before seafoam to idle at 1000, i dont think its burning more fuel, but I could save some by droping it back to 750..
