98 4Runner Headlight problems

Hey guys. I'm new to this and need some info/knowledge. When I turn on the headlights for night time driving, they both come on (low beam and high beam). When I try to only use the high beam, then the low beams shut off. But every time the lights are turned on, the high beam is always engaged. Any idea as to why or how to fix it so that low beams come on when the lights are turned on?

Any chance there are some aftermarket headlight bulbs in there or perhaps the wrong bulb? I've heard of some of them being wired different and that either swaps the high and low beam or swaps all 3 pins:

Not sure which type of bulbs you have, but might be worth trying to swap to some known good bulbs and then if that does not work, ring out the headlight connector and figure out if the voltages there are correct:

and if not, swap the pins around to fix the issue.

Thanks for the replies. It's not the switch. I think its a wiring issue as I have had the truck for 3 years now and it's never done this before. I'll try to cut down the power for the high beams at the headlights themselves.

clunking noise while shifting

i have a 82 toyota 4x4 5speed that clunks everytime i shift gears unless i shift at a low RPM. Ive been told its the u joints or motor/tranny mounts. i replaced both motor mounts and check the u joints and they are fine. im going to replace the tranny mount next but im thinking it might be in the 3rd memeber in the rearend or in the tranny. how can i check if the 3rd memeber is good?
