93 22re oil leak & engine code help

Hey folks,

Background Info
So, last week my wife was driving our truck up the canyon (steep grade normally go up in 3rd gear) and the check engine light came on. She pulled over and turned the rig off. Upon turning it back on everything seemed fine. I guess this happened twice before I remembered to check the engine.

Checked the oil and it didn't register on the stick (just the tip). Added oil (and coolant as well). Drove it up the hill again and the light is one again...kept driving to the ski mountain (total of 6 miles maybe). Looked under at the mountain and oil was dripped off the transmission crossmember. Got home and checked the oil again and it was fine (as was the coolant). Pulled off the tranny/t-case cover from inside the cab and noticed that there was a fair amount of oil on top of the tranny. Also missing a bolt on the tranny cover.

Checked the engine codes and got the following. XXXXX--XX----XXXXX--XX where the X equals the check engine light flashing and - equals number of seconds.

So, any thoughts as to what might be the issue? Rear main? There isn't any oil near the bellhousing...mostly all at the crossmember. Any help would be appreciated. The truck is older and rusty, but I would like to fix it.

Thanks!

Cool. Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if I was reading the code properly and I was thinking it was either a code 52 or a code 5 and a code 2. So, I guess I will look in the FSM and see how to replace the sensor. Any other advice?

Thanks!

Don't replace the sensor just yet. Those are $165 to $200 and it probably isn't the sensor itself. Probably, there is a short in the wire running to the ECU or the shield ground has failed.

Just got home from work; first pull the EFI fuse and clear the codes and also make sure the ks is actually hooked up . It is located near your oil filter. Give it a test drive and see if you get another code 52. A Code 52 will result in the ECU retarding your timing and it will not run right. If you do get another code then you can start trouble shooting. You can check for continuity between the connector and the ECU plug pin. Also, the wire is a shielded cable kind of like a small diameter coax cable and if the shield is not properly grounded this will interfere with the signal and cause a Code 52.
