Glad to see that you have the cover off. Every lil piece is a little closer to apart.

Carnage pics........
1st up......tensioner (using close-up mode but having trouble focusing). I could re-use this right??? (JOKING!!!)
FRONT.....the obligatory broken driver's side guide......
Now looking inside timing cover.........
The apparent breach area....
And now, looking INSIDE (with water pump removed)......you can see the timing chain had worn down a large section with a smaller break-through area
Water pump worked fine. I will getting a new one but will keep this one for a rainy day or if someone on here will need it. Same goes for the oil pump.

my crank is in, took a shortcut, head came off fully assembled, header to carb, and the timing cover came off complete with oil pump, fan and water pump still installed, hehe. wish i had a camera.

NOT convinced anything bad happened because of it. If anything, it did what it was supposed to do....seal. Except it was sealing at the timing chain / water pump breach.....which it apparantly did for about 600 miles. So, I can't talk smack about it....except that without the proper diagnosis, you end up trying to cure the wrong disease.

Motors is together, outside, just got to get the fuel pump drive and cam bolt installed. put the rocker cover on, put the belt back on, pilot bearing back in and slap the bitch back in the truck. got to work in an hour though, so at least wont be running till tommorow. Who knows, have never tired to install a motor by myself yet though.

Remember my skill level here too when replying. Pictures are so much better than naming stuff to take off because I don't know the name of each and every part and I am probably going to get confused.
So really, I just want to see if anybody could point me to a thread or otherwise give me step-by-step instructions.
You all know how slow and methodical I've been to this point.
I'm at the point I need to get the oil pan off.

92 I think that thread has it just right for you for the removal of the oil pan. Or loosen the engine mounts and lift it some, then pull the pan. I don't think it'll be too bad to pull.

So, how many weeks is dropping the oil pan gonna take? Some of those other threads you linked to seem to point towards AllCammedUp's writeup as a good step-by-step method.
I'd try to explain how to do it, but dropping the oil pan in a 2wd is an order of magnitude easier than 4wd from what I've read and experienced. For me it more or less amounts to "crawl under, unbolt pan, bathe in black oily rain." Of course, I wish I hadn't removed my oil pan in the end; found bits of plastic, which is probably not a good sign (no spoons yet), hope my timing chain guides last until spring so I can save up for the LCE dualrow conversion.
