92 Tacoma 3.0

I guess it would be a Tacoma anyway, correct me if I am wrong. I found a guy who is selling a 3.0 from a 92 pickup, timing chain replaced at 60K then again at 120K, right now it has approx. 140K. Would that motor fit into my 92 4Runner with the 3.0 in it? Motor mounts would be the same, right?

Sorry, Tacoma's didn't go into production until halfway through 95. From 89-95, it's just a "pickup". Before that, they were called "hi-lux" pickups. There's more detail than that, but that's the gist of it. I do believe that the motors would swap without much complication.

It should fit fine, but it's not a Tacoma and the 3.0 has a time belt (not chain)

Where there may be some possible** problems:

First does the pickup have the same type tranny as your's (ie...manaul or auto)? If not, there could** be a problem bolting on your tranny or with using the pickup engine harness.

The pickup may** have a slightly different connector plugs for the ECU. But this would only be a problem if you were changing the engine harness along with the engine.

Is the pickup an SR5 model? If not, the oil pressure sender for the non-SR5 gauge cluster may** not work, or worse, could blow your SR-5 4-runner oil pressure gauge. To be on the safe side keep your old oil pressure sender from the original engine. (maybe a tach problem too because the non-SR5 doesn't have a tach IIRC).

Is the pickup a 4WD? If not, you may**have to adapt your 4WD (like the ADD vac lines for one) to the donor engine.

**Not sure, just something you would want to look into.

i swapped a 3.0L from an 93 pickup into my 90 4runner. the motor mounts are the same and nearly 100% of the wireing was the same. i used the original harness from the 4runner and only a couple of the connectors were different. the wiring was the same so you can just splice them together and wrap em up good with some of that heatshrink stuff. i used teh tranny and tcase from the doner truck cuz it had less miles than my 4runner. it also made it a little easier cuz i didnt have connect the tranny to the engine, which is a pain in the ass to get the two top bolts on the bell housing(done two clutch replacements) anyways, it can be done. i got the donner truck on a friday and had the 4runner on the road monday. hit me up if you need and specific help once you get into it.

Might be a good idea to pull the ECU from the donor truck as well.

lol you gotta do what you gotta do. ended up taking the hood off soon after that picture was taken.

its much easier to keep the old ecu and harness. i found that there was less diference in the engine compartment than under the dash as far as the harness goes. so swaping out the computers wouldve required redoing alot of the under dash wiring. the only difference i can remember is a connctor that went tot the distributor, but the wires were the same colors and a connector that i think was the cold start sensor possibly in which the wires were the same color as well. i used splices and heatshrink to weather proof it

i just re read your post, another thing that might need dealing with is the rear heat hoses on your 4runner. i cant remeber exactly what i did but i know i had to cut a hose to get it to fit on the T that connects to the rear heat hose
