92 pickup bogging after going through puddle
so a few days ago i was driving and went thru a puddle, and for the past few days my pickup is bogging badly. its a 92 4x4 with 2.4. at low rpms i can floor it and it barely accelerates, until it hits about 3000rpm and it takes off fast. at idle it shakes and is very rough. this happends a few months ago also, right after i got the truck, but cleared itself up in about a week and a half. im sure it will stop this but id like to know what the problem is so i dont have to worry about this happening everytime it gets wet. i appreciate the help --chris

the first time it happened, i replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil, and the air filter was bone dry. this used to happen to my chevy but the air filter wasnt closed all the way, so thats what i thoguht was wrong with the toy, but im thinking maybe a junk MAF? thanks for reply tho

You may have a cracked coil. Start it up when it is dark and look around for sparks by the d-cap and coil. I have had the coil crack and be arcking to the bracket. Also change the distributor cap with a Toyota one.

Depends on how wet and muddy you are talking. Personally I try to steer clear of both. Mud is hard on parts and a PITA to clean. Water has negative affects also. When in deep water it is important to go slow, and not splash water into the hood, for risk of what you did...

ok heres the latest..... after work it was doing it again, and i got home and pulled out the MAF and it seems one of the connectors under that plastic cap is broken and not touching. so im guessing that this could be the problem, anyone know if it definatly would be?

My runner just had to have the MAF replaced, and it had the exact symptoms you described....it was 760 from the dealer for a new one i couldnt believe it just for a little part like that!!! but i got a used one from a yard for 140...i literally feel like i have a new engine in my truck, i think its slowly been going bad for awhile because the difference with the new MAF is amazing
I would say it's the MAF, I'm not an expert but it matches the problems with my truck to a tee
