Unhappy 91 3.0 major oil leak

Just got back from a 80 mile trip doing 80 MPH. When I got home I noticed oil all over the bottom of the truck. I pulled the lower plastic cover and think I traced it back to the front seal area. Is this common? Any other area in the front of the motor that could cause such a major leak? The PCV has never been changed its a 3.0/Auto 4x2. HELP!!!!!

you have the front crank seal there and the oil pump. you may need a new pcv valve but the seal is probabley the cause.

Could it need a new pump or just the pump seal? Its time for the timing belt replacement anyway is the front seal replaced with this service?

every thing has to come off the front of the motor when doing a t-belt i would replace the seal and get a new pump better than haveing the old one fail and over heat the motor and blowing the hgs and costing you more money

Thanks I should change the pump too. Have you heard of oil pumps failing on these motors?

No need to do your oil pump, water pump might be something you should change though.

One way to tell is spin the waterpump by hand, if it spins freely I'd replace, but if it has some resistance when you spin it, then I'd leave it alone.

Resistance when turning pump means the shaft seal is still good, no resistance (free spinning pump) shaft seal is worn, may not be leaking yet, but wouldn't be a bad idea to change the pump.

Could be your oil cooler on the drivers side of the engine. Looks like a big metal canister. There is an oring in there that goes bad. I did mine a couple of months ago.
