90 pickup shifter problems
Hello
I am a newbie here and have a ? about my 90 4x4 p/u 5sp. I am having a hard time getting it in gear. It started out with first and third and now grinds and slips out of all gears. It feels like the shifter isn't going all the way in most of the time. Someone told me that there is a plastic bushing on the shifter that wears out. Could this be the problem and if so is it a hard fix?
Thanks.

The plastic part you heard about is called the shifter bushing. The other part is called the shifter seat (OEM is rubber). These two parts will wear out and cause all sorts of shifter problems.
They are pretty easy to replace, you will need to remove the shifter boots and shifter itself. Not that hard
Head on over to www.marlincrawler.com and buy their version of the shifter seat and the shifter bushing (otherwise known as the shiftet socket and bushing). They make hard plastic versions that will last FAR longer then stock, they also make the shifter nice and crisp. I was VERY happy with them.
