89 runner top

I just bought a 89 4runner and i want to take the top off but not sure if the gasket will still be good or break when i take the top off. Any body know where to buy new gaskets? How about the side window that slid can i get new gaskets for them to?

Thumbs up

you can take the top off as much as you want you just cant drag the top once its on the ground or you'll up the seal, i take my top off for the entire summer untill late fall and i have no leaks. just make sure that if your installing a soft top to keep all your weatherstriping for putting the hardtop back on. without the top most peice of weatherstripping the rain will leak down into your quarter onto the computer for your rear window which causes the window to fail, often a reason for the rear window to be commonly seized

I dont think the top has ever been off its hole lift and i think the seal might rip when i take the top off.

Mine had never been taken off, and I took it off for the first time a couple months ago and I had no issues, everything looked brand new underneath, including the siderails of the 4runner.

I've been able to purchase any seal i've ever wanted through the dealer for my 89. Infact, the only one i havent replaced is the hard top seals because mine have never gone bad. I might get a set after this summer tho just for good practise (i always have to pull mine off when i install my soft top)

I've had 3 $runners with removeable tops and have never had a problem with them not sealing up after being re-installed. I think they did a great job on the design. Be careful with the interior trim if you care about it because the pieces can sometimes be VERY brittle.
