Pull the engine and change the rod bearings.

You can get the piston and rod out w/o pulling the motor - but you do have to pull the head... If you ate a rod bearing, it's time for a rebuild - that's the right way to fix it.

Are you working on a 4wd or 2wd? If it's 4wd, to replace the bearings without pulling the motor, you have to remove the front differential and drive shaft. It's a real hassle. It's easier pulling the motor.

When you replace rod bearings it's standard practice to replace the main bearings and rings at the same time. Also, hone the cylinders, inspect the crankshaft, and have it turned if necessary. If the bearings are damaged.....and not just a bit worn...you'll need to have it turned as usually the crank journals are also damaged.

There's more to it than this.... also considered standard practice, but if you give us an idea of what you're dealing with, we can tell you more of what you may need to do.
