89 Pickup shock question

I purchased an 89 4x4 pickup with a 4 inch suspension lift and no rear shocks or leaf spring plate bolts or washers ( don't ask why they threw it all away??) . So I went to a local salvage yard got the leaf spring plate's and all hardware. Got some Rough Country Hydro shocks for the 4" lift, but when I installed them I had to mount them with the body of the shock to the frame and the shaft or rod end to the axel, the body hit the axel and the shaft end wouldn't bolt to the frame. Will this work OK?

mmm. that is weird then. I'm kinda stumped. There shouldn't be a difference from left to right.

Yes because the size of the shock body was pretty big

Shocks will not work right up side down. That's why the usually have this end up/down on them.

You have hydraulic shocks ?I'm assuming from the 'hydro' in the title you provided . You should run them can down , piston up .

I've seen nitrogen charged shocks run either way .

I had to get the leaf spring seats from a junk yard due to the previous owner of the truck not having any shocks or lower mounts on the rear. I told them what vehicle I had and what I needed. I tried to look at some pictures unline but have been unsuccessful. The leaf spring seats which have the lower shock mount on them are on the opposite side of the axel as the upper shock hanger so when you put the shock on the lower mount the upper mount is on the other side of the axel. The shock tube hits the axel and won't let the shock mount on the upper mount. if you turn them upside down they will work fine. My passenger side leaf spring plate has the lower shock mount in front of the axel ( if I mount it the other way the shock is offset the wrong way not straight) and the upper shock mount is behind the axel. Does anyone have pictures of your rear lower shock mount? Are there different plates for different year trucks? I think the 2wd one is not curved it fit the round axel it is more flat.

I am assuming that is the passenger side from the rear according to the gas tank location. it looks like your leaf spring plate is opposite of mine. If I turn mine that way the bolt will be towards the wheel and the shock wont be straight. DO you know if they make different year shock plates?

I'm not sure on the year differences. Did the PO of the truck happen to do a U bolt flip and just didn't weld on lower shock mounts?

I don't believe so it looks like yours just backwards. Is there a difference between the ext cab and standard cab? They are priced different from Toyota. Like $20 each

There shouldn't be a difference. I know the 2wds are spring under, and the 4wds are spring over. Post some pics of the mounts you bought
