89 gauge cluster swap question.

I'm looking to swap out my dlx to a Sr5 cluster. I found a good unit that came out of a 95 Sr5 v6. Yes, I understand I will have to calibrate the tach. I confirmed my truck is cable operated as is the new cluster. However the seller say's the unit will fit 91-95 only, I confirmed this with the seller and he reiterated that it would not fit 89-90 but, couldn't elaborate why. I researched and didn't find any 89-90 swaps from a95 so, anybody know anything about this?
Thanks a bunch..

A little clarification about the question. Is there any know change in the cluster year 95 that would make it unusable in a 89-90?
