I had a similar issue at one point, try checking the VAF unit. There are instructions on how to do the check with a voltmeter in the FSM: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...33volumeai.pdf

Sounds similar to the problem I'm having. 1993 Toyota Pickup SR5 V6 3.0 202,000 mi. Starts and runs fine when cold, but once it gets up to normal temp, it won't start unless you give it a little throttle, it basically seems like it is flooded out, but will run fine again once started and burns that extra fuel.

When I got to looking around, I noticed my intake hose was cracked, so I replaced that. It crumbled into about 10 pieces getting it off, problem still exists, although I never suspected that to be the problem.

From there I'm thinking its my cold start injector not disengaging??

How does it start when its cold? Rough? My 88 is doing the same, and its my IACV ( idle air control valve ) going out. its extremely random and only happens sometimes

I started mine up this morning, it was a little rough at first (for about the first 15 seconds or so) and then ran fine. However once it got up to normal temp, it was still running at about 1700 rpms until I popped the throttle, then it dropped back down to the normal (about 700 rpms).

Once it was to normal temp, I tried to restart it and it wouldn't start unless you worked the throttle a little. After it did start again, it ran rough for about 15 seconds again and then ran fine at about 700 rpms.

This seems like a common trend on these 3.0s. My 88 does something similar to this. I imagine its just the beginning of how bad some of yours are. Starts up no problem when the engine is cold, if i drive it up to to temp and stop for a few minutes then restart, it idles real low. Never has actually died on me yet but it drops to 400-500 rpm and i usually give it some gas. By the time i take off and get to my first stop light, its back to purring at 700rpm like nothing has happened. Would love to hear any sure fire solutions that might come up in this thread !

Im going to check the IACV, the cold start injector, and the time switch.

I had my VAF replaced about 5 years ago, but if my intake hose was cracked, could it have got some back pressure to it causing it to malfunction?
