I bought a map light for my 88 Deluxe. It came with the light assembly, metal base and screws and wiring. When I remove my stock dome light and mirror I can see how it all will fit together, but do I have to cut out vinyl headliner or bolt it down on top of it. I can see I would need to cut out for the bulb recesses but I am unsure the best way to make this look good. Any pics of one would be appreciated. Tips or experience with this also appreciated.

I wouldn`t out the headliner, i would cut a couple slits in the headliner if needed for the bulb recesses, that should work.
