I double-checked interchange. Looks like 88 V6 truck, and 88-89 V6 4runner will work. You cannot use 89+ Truck, or 90+ 4runner.

Is it because there's a difference in the ignition system itself (apparent by number of terminals) or because the plug styles are different?

No...I don't get a code for faulty coil. But it doesn't test as it should in the FSM.

yes and yes.

Both the coil and the ignitor use different plugs, different coil styles, etc etc.

I'm not asking if the CEL is flashing a code. I'm asking if it lights up AT ALL solidly....no flashing....when you turn the key on. Or, does it even come on if you were to jump the diagnostic terminals?

Oh...because sometimes the parts are the same yet the plugs are different and can therefore just be spliced in. Oh well....worth asking. Thanks.

I am having the same problem with my 90 one ton. $350 later, I replaced the igniter and it worked. After letting it run a bit, I shut it off. Did this a handful of times. Guess what. The newer igniter is now bad. What causes them to go bad? Not sure I can afford many more $350 parts (used) for this truck.

Thanks,
