i bought the truck with broken bolts and fixed it. First time out to hollister hills the broke again what am i doing wrong and anyone no an easier way to remove the broken bolts? what is the torque spec on the flywheel bolts and what kind of threadlocker should i use?? Thanks guys oh yeah its a 1988 22re 4x4 standard cab short bed pick up truck. LOL

Don't have the answer just more questions. Broke the flywheel bolts how. The head sheared off? Are the vibrating their way out and then getting shredded off? If so their would be other damage. What kind of bolts did you use as replacements? I just can't imagine a 22re breaking good flywheel bolts.

 

i used the oem flywheel bolts. they are getting sheared off and leaving the bolt flush with the crankshaft. there is no other damage done to clutch or anything when i put them back the first time i did not use torque wrench i just put them on as tight as i could without threadlocker. what is the torque spec and what type of thread locker should i use. also do you think it might be my flywheel is warrped or something out of balance anything like that. the oem bolyts are the black ones that are 17mm

 

From the first bolts breaking are the holes in the flywheel egg shaped allowing the flywheel to move every time the clutch is let out at a stop.

The torque spec is 80 foot pounds.

I have changed one or two clutches in the last 35 years and I have never used a torque wrench or loctite .

Are you torquing the bolts in the proper pattern

either you have the wrong bolts they are to long or the holes in the flywheel are worn.

you are having movement someplace that is causing them to break.

 

the holes on the flywheel do have so indentation on the top surface but dont look to be egg shaped but i think its the flywheel. it has to be. what is the correct tourque patteren just like a wheel lug nuts? but yeah 65 more bucks and ill have a new flywheel i hope that solves the problem

 

Your flywheel needs replacing and/or clutch.

Something is not rotating right.

yeah i got the clutch kit just gotta pick up the flywheel today toy conn. has them in stock for $65 anyone no any better deals

 

i would say that either put a new flywheel in or make sure they are flywheel bolts (with the short head) and put a thread lock glue on them and let that dry for a couple hours then make sure the bolts are torqued to spec

 

Putting loc tite on and letting it set and then torquing defeats the point of loc tite. All you are doing there is busting it loose again.

Loc tite and torque it then let it set.

got to use the special bolts,got mine from Marlin and you can see how they are different from standard bolts. As others said,change the flywheel, not that much $$ and will save you a lot of grief....G
