87 4R 200k miles - Should I buy?
I found an 87 4Runner at a local stealership. It has 207,000 miles. 5-speed, EFI, 4wd, for just under $3600... I'll post some pics after lunch.
I need to know what to look for. Is there anything I should keep an eye out for? I know to check the undercarriage and fenders for rust. What else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

3600!!!!! That's ˟˟˟˟˟˟ing crazy! Don't buy! shop around and see what they're going for. I bought mine for 2000 with a new clutch cv's motor msd crap in great condition. there was more done to it but it was years ago so I don't remember everything. The trade in was probably only given about 5 to 800 dollars for it. Or its somebody who works there's truck....... Just my two cents

I'm sure I can work them on the price... I am pretty good at that. I once talked a different stealership down to half of what they were asking for a car a few years ago... I should be able to do it again...lol
I just need some fuel for the negotiation...

Sounds like a good truck but like everyone else is telling you you should only have to pay about 2k for most 89 or older stock toyotas, if you buy a 4runner check the rear window to make sure it is fully functional (they are notorious for having problems), avoid automatic locking hubs if you can (they all out SUCK).

My house painter just bought his brother's '88 4x4 V6 extra cab pickup for $7,000 last week. Except this one had less than 8,000 miles on it! (Yes - you read that right - eight thousand miles - not 80 thousand or 800 thousand!!!) He drove it by and it looked like it just came off the showroom floor. I'm trying to get him to bring it by so I can take some pictures and post them here. It's in such pristine shape he's almost afraid to drive it.
Not exactly the same situation as the one you're looking at, but it's a recent sale for the same vintage you can use for negotiating. I would expect the 200K mileage difference between the two similar vehicles would account for more than a $3,400 price difference!
