87' 22re and 89' 22re ecu compatability?
Hey guys i have my 22re pulled and was going to rebuild it but i came across a 87' 22re for sale and with 167k kms (canadian i dont know what that is in miles) would this engine match up with my ecu and wiring harness, also i was looking on a web site that says pre 89 22re's pushed 116HP and the 89-95 dropped to 106HP or so what is different?? should i do this swap and rebuild my engine when i have more time and money to do it right??
thanks.
edit:just need to know if i can make this work even if i have to change parts over form my engine to the 87 what would i need to change any help is all i ask
thanks.

If they are both trucks it will probably just slip right in, in 89 the trucks did change halfway through the year but everything still should be pretty much interchangeable. For example i had an 87 took the block out of an 83 i think and the head off of an 89 and that is (was) in an 87. Its when you get into the newer years like 93 94 22re's that you have to start switching parts around but thats still not a big deal. My brother fried his ecu in his 89.5 pickup and took the ecu out of the 87 pickup with the wacked motor and it just plugged right in, but you have to remember that the codes are slightly different for an 87 then a 89 (something that really screwed us up)
