This summer I am hoping to rebuild my EFI harness. The PO did one hell of a hack and patch job on the wiring under the hood. I did a rebuild this winter 'cause I had to and not 'cause I wanted to.. Damn thing wouldn't wait. Anyway, going through the wiring while the motor was out i found speaker wire and what might have been part of an extension cord. Not to mention some horrible solder work. I would have liked to have gotten to it while the motor was out but it was the coldest week of the year with temps in the teens and I don't have a garage.

That being said I want to rebuild my harness. My worry is how to rebuild the connectors. I rebuilt the plug for my TPS but it's something that happened to work but not proper. I had to glue the little female fittings in the plug because I have no idea where to get the stock replacements. Which is where I'm going with all of this. Any idea where such things can be found? All of them? I don't want to splice nice new wire to a few inches of old stuff at each plug.

 

www.connectorsfast.com is where I get my injector connections. I think I have a link somewhere else for others but will have to look them up.

 

www.repairconnector.com is another resource as is the Toyota dealer. Toyota part numbers for electrical plugs are 90980-xxxxx where xxxxx is the five digit code stamped on most Toyota plugs.

Which one of the Injector connectors (e.g., offered by www.connectorsfast.com) do you use? Do you think it varies by year or engine?

 

Thanks again everyone. I took a look through those sites and think I've located what I was looking for. I hope to start building a kit soon so that once summer comes around I can install all new custom fit wiring proper from end to end. No more corroded wire crimps and hard cracked housing.

 

The biggest is the injector/year. As I understand it, the 3.0 and 22re use the same injectors. You used to hear Red Top Injectors and White Top Injectors. The Red Top label is kind of misleading as 88 is a one year only and is red the 89-94 uses red ones also. The White Top is square and is from 85-87 are the easiest to distinguish.

The Red ones you need to pay close attention to. I always have to look up the resistance to see which one is which. If I remember right, the 88 injector will measure in at around 3 Ohms and the 89 is around 1-2 Ohms. I will need to verify the ohms but by measuring it, you can tell quick.

They are both Red Top. Look at my finger. I painted the fool proof tabs white to help show the physical difference.

The left red one, the fool proof tab is below the electrical contacts. The red one on the right the fool proof tab is above the fool proof tab. (Tab on the right injector, on the right side of the injector shows the fool proof tab is above the electrical contacts).


Here is the connectors from the website that shows the fool proof tabs as well. Notice the slots are above or below the electrical connectors. It would of been nice if Toyota would of used a third color.


The white connectors that Toyota uses are very brittle and usually break easily or are broken. I have used 4 sets of these when I work on the 85-87 trucks. The Red Injector connectors are built so much better and I have never had to replace them. The connector below is a great improvement over Toyotas factory white connector.

 

I replaced my injectors last year. I had issue with one of the stock ones and decided to try some performance after market injectors. The only thing I noticed was a drop in my gas mileage. The injectors came with new plugs to fit them so mine have already been swapped. Although I'm going to get around here soon to having the stock ones rebuilt. I kept the original plugs but not sure what kind of shape their in. Thanks for the heads up on all of that. I will be referencing this when the time comes.
