86 pickup auto transmission problem

Exclamation 86 pickup auto transmission problem

I have a 1986 pickup the transmission shifts fine till it gets to 3rd then catches 4th almost instantly, fluids are good, solenoid is good.. it has push button O/D and with it off it still kicks into overdrive.. any ideas of what it may be ??

Switch, wiring, OD solenoid, OD solenoid o-ring bad or missing.

All of that is good, I talked to guy earlier today he had mentioned the 3rd gear friction plate, any ideas on that ??

Kickdown linkage adjusted ok? From here you'll have to go into the valve body and see if anythings amiss. Those are like brain surgery, lots of springs, check valves, etc. so if you go into it yourself get a breakaway diagram.

"Bswarm" Yeah kickdown is good and tight.. Where can I find a breakaway diagram, cause that's my next step I reckon..

You'll need the trans model, then Google for the valvebody diagram. How many miles on the trans? If over 100k might as well get it rebuilt.

It's got around 200k, so you recommend on rebuilding it?

It's up to you, that's a lot of miles. It is something fun to learn if you want to tackle all or part of it. There's specialty tools needed for compressing the clutch packs and pulling them out for a rebuild. Usually trans rebuilds only require new seals and o-rings, the hard parts including the friction discs hardly ever need replacement.

Ok I may just get a rebuild kit and go from there, I believe my trans is a "A340F" can you help me confirm that?

It should be accurate as long as somebody didn't replace the trans with something else.

NEED HELP!! PLEASE
solenoids are good ,new brake pack.. Trans still hits third for a split second then shifts into O/D and has no power.. Any clues???
