I have a 86 4Runner that I just changed from carb to EFI (22RE) and have the motor running, but I do not have the label on the hood with recommended timing and idle. I think it should be 5 degrees BTDC and 750 rpm. Am I right?

Also, on the carb engine, I had advanced the timing until it almost pinged to get more power. Can I do the same thing with the EFI or will the computer just keep adjusting to negate the beneifits?

Also, I tried to adjust the idle at the throttle body, but I have the screwed it until it stopped, but the idle is only 1000 (but steady). Any thoughts on why it will not go any lower?

timing should be around 5btdc, idle should be 750, just like you thought.
you can do the advance the timing til it pings thing, but I suggest you do it in small changes, jumpering the test connector each time you adjust it.
if the idle won't go lower, it's possible you have a vacuum leak somewhere, or the idle air valve / auxilary air valve is stuck.

 

just curious have you checked the idle stop screw me and my dad adjusted this to keep my 86 truck from dieing due to a ruff idle

 

Thanks for your both of your help! It ended up being the rough idle screw. I now can adjust the air mixture.
