Rebuild: No Check Engine Light, Help.

I just finished a rebuild of a 22re.

Everything I think is in place but there is no check engine light when the key is inserted.

Other lights come on, gas gauge works. I check the fuses inside the truck and the ones in the engine bay by the battery. All of those look good.

The starter turns over.

Any ideas of what it could be, or ideas of how to diagnose the problem?

Thanks

(FYI, as I was bolting in the engine, I shorted the positive battery terminal with a impact wrench to the engine block. The positive cable was still attached to the battery but the negitive was not attached.)

Here is your tip for the day. When checking fueses, not only do you have to check to see if the fuse is good, but to see if the fuse is there at all.

(My box is a bit miss leading as there are several empty spots for components the truck does not have installed)

Now on to a fuel leak with the filter.

(On the filter for a 22re which end is the in? Is it the bell shaped end?)

There's usually indicator arrows on the filter. But, if you have the mounting holes up top while holding the filter, then on your left hand.

no check engine light = no power to ecm with key on.

carefully inspect for power at the ecm, make sure all your wires are plugged in.

on toyotas, usually a black wire with red stripe is ecm power.

cheers.
