'86 22re pulsation damper delete?

My fuel pulsation damper was leaking so I clogged the hole on the bottom. The part is $85 local and the banjo bolt cant be found local but is $15 online. Will it be fine deleting it? Also, I dont think its dying from bad fuel, I think its another problem but I need this first. Hit and miss.

It's about $75 from RockAuto.com. That's what I did to replace mine.

Please don't try to start it if you know you have a fuel leak.

Fix the fuel leak first. Toyota put the pulsation damper in there for a reason; if you think you're smarter than Toyota's engineers, by all means save yourself $60. I know what I'd do.

Maybe read more first, never said it was still leaking. Also research more, Toyota did away with the damper and I have yet to see they moved it. If they did move it please by all means post a link. If they deleted it completely and I think they infact did then I followed their idea and deleted it too. Its not for saving cash its because they deleted it too.

All Toyota trucks from 1984 through 1995 use a fuel pulsation damper (over the years, only two different part numbers).

Do you mean that a completely new and different engine by Toyota doesn't use a fuel pulsation damper? Let us know how well your 'adaptation' works on your '86 22re.

Sorry scope, but nope.
My 91 doesn't have one. Straight from the filter to the rail to the regulator and back to the tank.
And I'm not sure my 88 has one even.

I wouldn't take this as gospel but even here says the same.
And searching for 22re fuel dampener... they all point to pre-89 22re's, as far as I can see.

Interesting. RockAuto shows a Fuel Pressure Damper for 1984-88 22re, and they're usually pretty good about year-spans (though it appears that for 91 they show it only for the 3VZE).

Thanks for pointing that out. What design change do you think they did in 1989 so that the damper was no longer needed in the 22re only?

Bad to the point of this thread lol. If they deleted the damper can I safely do so? If I can I want to try to get the bolt they deleted it with. The truck sits I have many more rides but I either need the damper or delete it like Toyota did.

Having the dampener would be beneficial if Toyota would have stuck with the original design goal of firing the injectors in pairs instead of all 4 at once (just check your wiring diagrams for proof of that- injectors are paired and the ECU even has two output pins for injectors) as that would smooth the pulses out, but since they decided on simultaneous injector firing, the dampener wasn't necessary and eventually removed... probably when they ran the stock low enough to justify having some for sale at the dealers.

What vehicle did the engine come from?
