In the process of setting things aside for my air box-batttery swap and I noticed a huge white wire coming out of the fuse box under the hood. It's taped into the positive cable on the battery and goes to a fuse labled "Glow" on the top of the fuse box.

Any idea what this is? My truck isn't a diesel so it can't be glow plugs. I'd like to remove it or eliminate it if I don't need it.

I think that's the main power for the body harness. Should be a fuseable link attached to the battery. Why on earth would you think you could get rid of it?

 

Fuseable link? I know what thy look like but this isn't one at all. The dang thing is taped to the + side of the battery cable. If nothing else I'll grab a link out of a wrecked rig and wire it in. Thanks for the heads up.

 

I think if you unwrap the tape you'll see its spliced into the positive battery cable.

 

If your truck isn't diesel, then there isn't anything that would requier an 80A fuse.

It's possible that the previous owner installed a stereo, and used the empty space for the glow plugs, to fuse a power wire to the amp.

He didn't put all the info in his original post (or just didn't see it)...it should read GLOW AM1 80A

Its the main fuse for the engine. The vehicle DOES require an 80 amp fuse, and its absolutly stock.

 

oh, sorry. I thought there was a separate ALT fuse for everything.
