I'm guessing the roads are pretty flat where you live? At 55mph in 5th gear I'm not going to be gaining ANY speed if I'm heading up a slight incline. What kind of motor work do you have done to have such a powerful 3.0? I've got headers, a free flowing exhaust and 31's with 4.30's and it has a hard time getting out of it's own way. Must be the weight difference between your truck and my 4Runner.
I'd think I had some engine issues, but it runs like a champ, has compression well above the minimum and a fresh top end. Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, oil and filter, all with less than a thousand miles on them.

I have your regular run of the mill 3vze. It has sea2sky stage 1 cams, catback (including a new cat) and the ISR mod. Also has fairly fresh tune up, and runs 10w-30 amsoil synthetic.
I also gear'ed my truck 4.88's and 33's. I get up to 21-22mpg on the hwy in the summertime, and I can EASILY roast the rear tires whenever I want.
And the weight savings from 4runner/pickup is pretty good too

But it is VERY hilly here, I can't accell up too steep of a hill in 5th, so 4th is needed.
I regularly go up to whistler mountain

Here's a calculation to find equivalent gearing to stock when increasing the size of your tires.
New Tire Size/ Old Tire Size x Current Gear Ratio= New ratio to maintain final drive.
So, for instance, in order for me to maintain the stock ratio when putting on 33" tires, I would divide 33 by 29(1.137931) then multiply that by the original gear ratio of 4.1 and my new gears should be 4.56 (4.6655171 to be exact, but last time I checked, they didn't make those).
31s to 33s with original gearing of 4.56 would mean new gearing of 4.88.
BTW, when you put bigger tires on your truck w/o changing the gearing, this makes your speedometer/odometer say you are going slower/shorter distances than you actually are. More circumference= further per revolution. With that being said, (without arguing the accuracy of this calculation method) if you simply take your tripometer reading divided by your # of gals, you will actually get a lower number than is accurate. Does that make sense?

To keep your truck close to stock, here is what your gearing will have to be per each size tire:
manual trans:
4.10's - 28"
4.56's - 31"
4.88's - 33"
5.29's - 35"
5.71's - 37+
Thats how toyota geared the 5sp trucks

Oh I bypassed the fact that you have a truck lol. Those cams must have made a pretty big difference? Now I'm really wondering if something is wrong with my turd because doing a burnout isn't something it's capable of. Maybe if there was dirt or water involved, but not on dry pavement.....unless I dropped the clutch at redline it might break the tires loose. I gotta look into those cams......

Hehe, I dont have to dump the clutch. I just ease off the clutch and giver some gas (while holding the brake). Super easy! She doesnt have the power to keep em spinning into 2nd though
