Haha, find a long downhill section and keep it floored for about 5 minutes.

Nah it's not that bad, but considering the weight of my 4Runner and the low power of the 3.0 it's not going to win any races. I guess it depends on what you're used to driving. The Jeep I owned before my 4Runner had 235hp and a V8 and I could do a burnout all the way around my block if I wanted to. Quite a difference from the 4Runner lol

I had a 86 turbo runner. Auto. I doubt it was boosting at all. I got it to 91 on a 2 mile downhill section. On skinny 29s. Sooooo slow. Max on level ground was about 86 think?

Yeah I did it wasnt to bad.... I just used 4th gear on the highway. Around town it wasnt bad at all. But the 5.29's make it feel like it has more power even at the same rpms. For instance if I am in 3rd gear turning 3k and stomp on it with the 5.29s it gains speed way quicker than it would have with stock gears. It also seems to hold speed alot easier.

I have hit a little bit over 100mph on my speedometer with the 5.29s and 35's on a very slight downgrade almost flat. Just to see if my truck would do it. It was very smooth and the truck still felt very tight!

I'm guessing the roads are pretty flat where you live? At 55mph in 5th gear I'm not going to be gaining ANY speed if I'm heading up a slight incline. What kind of motor work do you have done to have such a powerful 3.0? I've got headers, a free flowing exhaust and 31's with 4.30's and it has a hard time getting out of it's own way. Must be the weight difference between your truck and my 4Runner.

I'd think I had some engine issues, but it runs like a champ, has compression well above the minimum and a fresh top end. Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, oil and filter, all with less than a thousand miles on them.

btw i could get almost 300 miles out of a full tank which puts it near 17mpg. I spend alot of time on country roads with 45mph limits and infrequent stops, with the exception of deer, tractors, etc.

Try it in an auto tranny 3.0

I can go 80+ downhill.
You can forget excellerating uphill with this tranny.
How much of that 140 HP makes it to the rear wheels?
Im saving up for a motor swap. Just don't know what motor yet.
If something drops in my lap, it will make the decision easier.
Anyone have a free running motor, 89 or newer?

Forgot to add, less than 200 miles a tank with 30x9.50x15 and 4.10s

phil, i would def look into a 5 speed swap before you do a motor swap, putting the manual transmission in my truck made a HUGE difference

Didnt think i should start a new thread for my simple-ish question, as it fits in this subject, so sorry to threadjack. I just put BFG m/t's on the 'runner, 33X10.50's, i have 4.30's and a 5 speed, 3.slow. How far off do you think my speedo would be.

You could try and figure it for yourself. Just get a friend with a correct speedo and drive side by side at increments of ten or so then you get the factor.

there is nothing wrong with running 3,000rpm on the highway. alot of people don't consider that toyota(and most all japanese enginess)are mid to high range rpm enigines. meaning that are trucks get more power, and toruqe at 3,000 rpm. also they get better gas milage at 3,000rpm. we all drive toys here and you should all know that they don't have any low range power(1,500rmp-2,500).i would sy 5:29s are perfect for 35s and that it would put you back to a stock set-up. when my truck was stock it did 3,300 rpm on the highway.going about 75ish.

and i would second a 5spd to any one who has a 3.0L with an auto...it makes it a whole new truck.

Thanks Brandon. I looked into it here locally at an Asian specialized recycler and came up with almost $800.oo for the swap. Swap price seemed complete (pedals, driveshafts, Slave, master and lines, etc).
Just have to decide if I want to do that or just get the trans and x-fer with the next motor.

Sorry for the thread jack.

I drove on worn 32's with 5.29s for over a year with a four speed. Talk about Slow! I once barely hit 65 coasting on a long steep hill. If I had put it in gear it would have blown up. HA! Lots of power though, but I think I only ever passed one car.
