4WD Not working 1990 4runner

L4 is working, but H4 isn't. I can shift into both fine, but the light doesn't turn on and my front wheel is still spinning freely.

Some research I see that its likely an issue with the vacuum hoses, but haven't really been able to find more specifics than that.

I'm very new to working on cars, so feeling a bit lost and in over my head. Any detailed information on troubleshooting this would be much appreciated

Subject to your telling us some information about engine, transmission and trim, I'm guessing you have a problem in the ADD (that's why you have vacuum hoses). Here's the FSM section: http://web.archive.org/web/201204242...26addcontr.pdf

Everyone has to start somewhere, but there's no shame in enlisting the aid of someone who does this for a living. Consider taking it to a shop.
