Alright my 4runner wont start its details are in my signature

the other day it just felt rough when it started to drive (wasn't warmed up and it was cold outside) seemed to almost stall out and had a high idle
- ya i should warm it up when its 25 degrees out here in boulder, co as of late

So tonight i was gonna warm it up but it wouldnt start please help me diagnose

the most distinct thing it did would when it tries to turn over you hear this distinct clunking from around the airbox and maf.... no idea

also my gas pedal is down to the floor after i tried to give it gas

umm beside that please ask me questions i will reply. it was dark out and cold so i dont have too much info.

i had 3/8 gas so i dont think fuel line froze but it didnt seem like it was getting gas

 

Cold start injector and timer. Clunking around the airbox ? Open the hood and have someone try to start it and listen for the noise. I dont know what you mean by pedal to the floor after gas. On an injected engine you dont want to open the throttle all the way while starting( thats the procedure for a flooded engine and will cut the injector on time).

 

Yeah, gas pedal on the floor, is it staying there by itself? Check the linkage/throttle cable make sure it's not kinked or broken.

 

if your gas pedal is sticking down...then there is something along the cable making it.

find out why it's doin that.

 

i did try to listen to it while someone else was starting it it sounded like something was clunking by the maf or something plastic i dont know.

Another weird thing is i pulled the ecu fuse a couple weeks back before taking emmision test to get a check engine light off. and it still hasnt come back on and it usually does. its a code 71 for egr, and yes i wasnt even able to perform the test because leaking oil and overheating - small crack in rad

 

ya my car is stuck at work now im gonna trouble shoot a lot better tommorow and check out my gas pedal cable, and find all info possible tonight to try and figure whats wrong

 

Did you fix your EGR?

 

Your truck has an AFM, not a MAF, there is a big difference between the two. The noise your hearing inside the AFM is the flapper door moving as the engine cranks, that`s normal.

 

Never fixed my egr and my runner is in a garage that's probably at least 50 deg. So it probably isn't my cold start injector I don't know what next to look at, and fuel was coming out of the fuel line while taking apart my injector

 

Just throwing this out there, could the throttle body be stuck open, and the ECU not letting the engine start to protect it... pedal on the floor could indicate that....

 

an engine needs 3 things to work bud 1.fuel 2.air. 3.spark (petrol) compression (diesel) its lacking in one of these areas so check each bit individulay, air take air filter off and and crank it over if it sucks by placing hand infront of pipe you have air. fuel. check fuel lines from tank, check pump in tank by listening if its pumping all the way up to throttle body and injectors. spark take spark plugs out and try cranking looking for obviously a spark off the plug. you do get tools to check this but be very carful handling plugs out of engine by hand you might find your quite good at brake dancing if ya get it wrong try all plugs for spark. if you have all 3 then its a sensor or electrical solenoid after all that then we gota find the bit that aint working.

 

Ya I'm gonna go through the steps to check more tommorow thanks for the help

Did you carefully check all your fuses?

I noticed you had a very similar thread with nearly the same symptoms back in June 09 and the cause was the EFI fuse had popped.
