Not to sure on how to set my altimeter on my 4runner! Im new to this kinda thing! So if anyone could clear it up for me and help me out to get this thing set! Thanks

in theory yes, but he lives in idaho... lol... kind of a waste of gas just to set the altimiter...

So you can get factory altimeters for 2nd gen 4runners/3rd gen pickups? Are they plug and play?

 

I don't know about where to buy them, but the unit is self contained, so you should just be able to duct tape it to your dash

 

LoL Duct Tape, now that'd look good.

It bolts to the dash quite simply. *not really. You have to remove the dash 'safety pad' as Toyota calls it.. which is in short, the entire passanger side dash. Only real hard part with that is getting the right vent out without destroying it or the pad. theres... if i remember, 3 mounts that fit through factory holes in the dash. You just need to open them up (they're already drilled) then pop the clinometer on, put the nuts on, wire it up, your done.

I put one in my rig awhile ago.



just find out the elevation of your home and set it and leave it. It'll fluctuate a few hundred feet depending on the weather. It's only good for a guesstimate ofcourse =)

 

yes, yes and no.

They did make em for 2nd gens.. but those are even harder to find and im not totally positive how easy it is to install them. Same with 3rd gen pickups.

but more common are the 86-88 4runner Clinometers. Which also fit the same in the pickups.

The wiring however isn't just hiding under the dash, you have to hardwire it which isnt to hard. I wired mine in with the dash lights so it adjusts brightness same as the dash lights. (ground it to the rheostat)

 

The 4WD Tercel SR5's have them too.

 

Ahh, I figured I would just need to wire in for the dash lights.. I guess the hardest part would be actually finding a clinometer for my gen truck.. Thanks for the info

 

You should have altitude signs somewhere in your area, or go to a ranger station, they usually know the altitude at that location. Trailheads also might show altitude. Adjust it accordingly using the knob on the left.
