4 cylinder brake rebuild thread

First, I've looked around and cant find anything about this. Does anyone know where I can obtain the 4cyl front break rebuild kit for cheaper than the 50 something dollars Toyota wants for some rubber?

Second, I would like any advice on working these rust pitted pistons back to life. It does not seem like it could be to big of a problem besides extra wear on those expensive rubber parts.

Do you have a bead blaster ??

If they don`t clean up as in all the pits gone your rebuild wont last very long

What do the bores look like ??

I think those calipers are so far gone they might not be accepted even for a core.

Hard to tell from pictures

Then I have no clue what calipers you might have.

the bores look good, no pitting just need some cleaning. the pistons however have bad pitting im going to see if i can locate some along with a 54mm socket

I have rebuilt brake calipers and have gotten the kit from Oriellys. I had a small bore hone to clean up the cylinders and my pistons were in great shape where the seals ride on. I think it was about $8 for the kit, don't remember if it was for one or both sides.

I will say that the rebuild would only last for about a year before they would start leaking again. Not sure what I did wrong as they would work great for about a year. I normally stay with OEM parts but I will say that I got rebuilt calipers from Oriellys and they have yet to let me down.

I run 31 inch tires and with all the brakes in good working order, the stock setup works great for me and I do a lot of towing. I am in about the same situation as you on trying to find V6 calipers so gave up and just use stock.

I ended up picking up one left and 2 right v6 calipers for $40 today. the pistons and bores look a lot better.. im searching around for some brake hoses preferably some place with a 54mm socket, rotors, and what not to rebuild the drum breaks (no time or money for rear caliper upgrade). Im looking at summit right now but dont see any brake hoses
