3vze power steering idle up valve delete

I've seen several posts mentioning deleting this valve and replacing it with a bolt but I'm having a difficult time finding the correct bolt size. M12 and 1/2" are too small. M14 is too big. If you've done this what did you use?
Many Thanks.

I don't have one at hand to look at, but I think that it is likely that the hole you need to plug is a tapered pipe thread type.

It's gonna be a BSPT standard thread, not NPT.

I'm pretty sure that millball is correct about the thread pattern; it's probably a 1/4"-19 BSPT. Good luck finding a plug with that thread!

RockAuto has the replacement valve for $62.

You're going to be tempted to try a 1/4"-18 NPT pipe plug. Not only is it the wrong diameter, but the wrong pitch. You'll be able to get it in, but it will leak (lot of pressure!) And in doing so, you'll permanently deform the threads in pump, so replacing the valve at that point won't be an option.

But don't worry; RockAuto has re-man pumps for only about twice what the valve alone goes for.

Thanks guys. You got me thinking about specialty fittings so I wandered over to my local hydraulic shop and walked out with a plug that is an exact match. $1.78.

okay! I hadn't thought of that. Was it a 1/4"-19 BSPT?
