Auxiliary AIr Valve Stuck open on 1988 3VZE 4Runner
Can the Auxiliary Air valve in my 1988 4runner with a 3VZE engine be repaired. It is stuck open and causes the engine idle at 1500 RPMs all the time and to surge between 1500 and 700 RPMs when hot and the brake is applied. I have coolant running through the throttle body and the radiator is full. I removed the throttle body and verified the AAV would not close by putting the throttle body in 200 degree water for 5 minutes. You could still blow air though the AAV. I can put tape over the inlet to the AAV after the engine has reached temperature and the engine will idle at 700 RPMs. Can it be repaired or do I need to get a new/used throttle body. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a used throttle body.

I had the same problem with my 22RE. As far as I know they can't be repaired, it's a bi-metal deal that opens and closes the valve as it gets hot or cold, and I think when they're done that's it. I found another AAV for mine on ebay or something and just swapped it out. You might try rockauto for a new one, they seem to have everything.
