Thanks for the info....good to know the instructions have actual recomendations.

I hope I didn't offend you by the ricey comment...

My buddy had an Acura Integra with a Flowmaster on it and I thought that sounded pretty bad a$$... but then he was 19 at the time and it was only his 2nd car. Again, he had to drive it not me.
I prefer a more mellow tone, but something that really comes to life when you romp the throttle...and Magnaflow has met this criteria for my last 5 vehicles.
And the straight flow through design releases all back pressure created by most MFG.'d mufflers.
Currently on my 04' F-150 5.4, I have a 21" Magnaflow and it works perfectly...only took 4 different mufflers before I went back with the tried and true Magnaflow.

By Leaks, I ment...some header flanges become warped if not heat cycled and retorqued properly and even then they still might warp...the JBA's on my F150 are warped...I paid someone else to do the install...now I'm paying the price for it with a really nice exhaust leak. They need to be machined and then reinstalled...correctly.

In the instructions did they DT list the loctite sealent you used? Just curious...

I used to own a 95 Integra GSR with a magnaflow and it was a nice tone till I whomped on the gas... then it was pure rice.. especially when v-tec kicked in

And nope, My headers haven't warped or anything. they're all sealed up and sound amazing. I've put a couple thousand miles on them already and it sounds just as good as they did when I installed them

No offense taken! everyone has their own opinion. my exhaust is loud, and isn't ricey. I've had people come up to me asking what kind of motor I have in my truck. and their face lights up when I say I still have the 3vze.

No, in the instructions they said ( we recommend using a sealant to insure the headers do not cause leaks and it listed a few companies, Locktite being one of them. )

im completely stock. 31x10.50 toyo A/Ts... stock gears, and lift. I really need to slow my truck down though... I used to do 55-65 on the freeway but now I find myself doing 70-75 just to hear the rumble of my exhaust more... heh. If I hurt my gas mileage enough i'll drive slow again.

What kind of millage have you been getting? How much of an increase is there over the old stock stuff?

Did you get all the joints welded? That's going to make a clutch change a bitch lol.

Its a bit loud for me but sounds great and looks like it really woke it up.

For folks who find the exhaust note of the Borla muffler MaK installed to be too loud or brash, Borla makes a couple different ones in the same 2 1/4" size. When I bought my Borla cat-back system in 96 (the cat-back is no longer available, unfortunately, but the muffler is), it included the Turbo muffler that has a very slight S-bend, instead of the straight path that MaK chose. It's also a couple inches wider. It's really hard to tell what an exhaust system really sounds like from a youtube clip, but as best I can tell, the offset muffler on mine is a bit quieter and has a bit lower, deeper sound, a real nice (to me) resonant sound.

The muffler that came with my cat-back was model 40652 - I see that summitracing sells it for $108, which is a deal, considering the quality of the stainless steel used - mine is rust-free after 13 years.

(No affiliation with Borla or Summit, lol.)

Even though there is a slight S shape to the path, I saw a huge increase in mileage - went from around 20 highway to 24 (this was in the mid-late 90s before ethanol brought it down to 19 - grrrr.) I didn't have the hp measured, but there was also a VERY noticeable increase in power, just from the Borla 2 1/4" cat-back, so the offset is a nice alternative for folks who want a bit quieter, lower exhaust note but who still want the mileage and power and quality of the Borla. It's nice to have a choice. As I mentioned upthread, I think these are great mufflers and don't know why more hilux owners don't use 'em.

Mileage was a huge increase, but i've been having some o2 censor issues lately, so I think that might be causing things to be out of whack so im back down to normal 200 miles per tank...

Yes, I got all the joints welded, but Im wayyyy ahead of you buddy I've already replaced the fly wheel and clutch

Sb5walker is right. I went with a turbo style straight through muffler but they do make mufflers with a slight elevation S shape path. the muffler I got was 150 dollars. and the one with the S shape is slightly cheaper. both are great mufflers and will reveal a rather unique sound which sounds great! Borla do make some pretty awesome mufflers and I dont regret spending this much one bit. If someone wanted to do the same setup as me, or even get the same muffler as I do, i'd suggest it. its worth the money and the sound is remarkable.

I found this video on my computer and figured i'd post it up here. This is what my exhaust sounded like before I did all of the header work.

aslo u need to do an ISR or buy a intake asap, (you got air coming out, but not enough going in) it will also help out the sound and performance of your truck

my initial plan was to buy either a K&N intake or do an ISR mod and bring it down into the stock air box... put a drop in K&N filter and then buy a snorkel system.... think that would be enough to "get air in"? hah

well there ya go haha whenever i have around 400 bucks i'll buy a Snorkel but... priorities first... Tires are in demand and I dont have a lift, yet I want 33x12.50s so im gonna install a 2" body lift ( for my future 3.4 swap ) and it'll be enough to fit the tires too

lol oh no way, Im gonna buy an ARB safari snorkel. Never would I build my own snorkel, even though I work with plastic/steel piping.

I think almost everybody wants a 4runner built in a similar way. heh I refuse to do mine any other way other than the way I want it built... I refuse to go cheap :/ hah
