I just bought a 1995 four runner and he could not get the valves right on it I tried Measuring valve lash and .002 did not fit in intake or exhaust I’m new to working on engines and don’t know what to do the help would be appreciated thank you

The engine internals have to be rotated to a specific position called Top Dead Center (TDC) before measuring the valve clearance, did you set it to TDC first?

 

yes I have it on tdc

 

Do you have the procedure for checking valve clearance? http://web.archive.org/web/201501160...e/64tuneup.pdf (page EG2-18) There are 12 valves, and they are checked in pairs with a 120° rotation of the crank between each measurement. At (first) TDC you can only measure two of the 12 valves. (Yes, there are two TDCs).

 

I did all that is there any other way to bring them down without buying shims

 

All 12 valves are tight? Well, since you know the procedure, you know the way to adjust these valves is to replace the shims. You usually don't have to buy all 12; you can mix and match among the 12 and often reduce the number you need.

You might want to try to figure out why this happened. As the valve and head ages, the valve sits a little deeper into the seat, and that has been seen to reduce the clearance. Particularly on the exhaust valves. But to get all 12 go down to zero? You might want to pull out, say, 4 adjacent shims and measure them. If you have all "thick" shims, you at least have some room to adjust. But if your shims are "thin" (2.50mm or less), I would guess some substantial wear has been going on.
