32's on stock gears
I know this has been discussed but was wondering would 32 inch highway tires work with stock 4.10 gears. (1988 fuel injected single cab 4X4 manual). was going to throw header and cam and probably few other basic mods to improve hp and torque a little bit. Was thinking about the beast cam mostly for sound but also says it has good power increase. would it be that bad with the 32's?

My 88 had 31's and it was pretty gutless with the stock 4.10's. I seldom was able to use 5th gear. It was back to normal with 4.56's.
I've run several different cams back when Engnbldr was still in business. The stock cam has pretty good torque. The Crawler (260) cam was a bit better. The best cam for me was the 270 cam. I also installed larger valves, blended the bowls and gasket matched the ports. Had a cheap header and 2 1/4" exhaust with the stock cat and turbo muffler. For street and highway driving I loved it. Mid range and top end was awesome. (for a 22RE) Barely noticeable loss of low end. Might be very noticeable with the wrong gears though. Was still very good off road. If I was to build another 22RE I would do it the same again. You can still get the cams from the original cam grinder in Oregon. https://www.redlineenginebuilders.com/
This is just MY personal experience and recommendation. Maybe other's will chime in. Good luck with whatever you decide.
