3.0L over heating

i was driving for about 10min when i came to a red and noticed that my engine temp was above operating temp and kept on rising. so i pulled into the next gas station (about 200feet away) turned it off opened the hood, checked the fluids, and looked for leaks. nothing. when it was cooled down a little i continued driving until i slowed down again and it did the same so i blasted the heat and it made it go down for a while then the temp would jump and fall.on the way home about 6 hours later the temp was dancing even while at a constant speed (with the heat blasting) while as before it was only below 20mph or so. im thinking my thermostat. but i really have no idea some help would be nice. thank you

Is your coolant low? Your radiator tubes may be clogged or your fan clutch may be weak or non op. Your tstat should be replaced regardless when the problem is fixed if it is truly overheating
