in my history (mostly bmw) the dealer is the way to go.
ive tried to save money and have, by doing it myself.
but
i cannot count how many times i got the wrong part (even from a dealer) and only w/the dealer could i get the correct part(s) and/or full reimbursement.
also, my g.f. just finished paying off her 2005 accord.
went to "walmart" for a simple oil change.
got the report "your oil drain plug is stripped now" ($500.00+ )
i went in to fix it (61 bucks at the dealer (for the pan))
junked the "fram" oil filter.
found only the hex part of the bolt was stipped.
point is, 50% of the population on this planet is less than average.
you chance of being totally screwed by
-un proven quality parts
-wrong parts
is increased when you shop online.
i would buy movies/ video games/ oil filters from ebay.
but
not shoes, gaskets, or other temperamental fitment items.
sometimes the difficult path is the easiest path.

Yeah, I did. Do not buy from that MF in Arizona. Parts Dinosaur. I purchased a gasket kit that was of very poor quality and the AH refused to do anything about it. Many of the small gaskets did not fit the 3.0. Must have been kitted in China by a blind man.
That is a fact......

I ordered a lot of parts from ebay for the BMW I just sold. Everything came from seller "foreigncarpartsonline". I never had any problems with the parts, and I ordered gaskets, center link, wheel bearings, lots of things. You just have to watch who you use, some are better than others. I'm not into using expensive dealer parts for a vehicle thats paid for an only worth a few thousand $$.

all that junk on Ebay is aftermarket made in taiwan crap. I would never ever trust those kits.
I bought one for my MR2 race car just becuase it was super cheap, and I didn't care about quality. I ended up having to throw it away ($40) when most of the gaskets didn't fit. The rubber valve cover gasket was 1/2" too short! And yes it was made for the car.
You just have to ask yourself; what is your time worth? Sure you can save a buck or two online, but parts from the dealer fit right the first time, everytime. And gaskets are something that you dont want to have to dig back into and replace when they fail in 25K miles.
Remember, your factory gaskets made it how many thousands of miles? And all you ever hear about aftermarket gaskets are how quickly they fail, how they never fit, etc etc.
