3.0 muffler removal

I was working under my sons truck and noticed the pipe about an inch before the muffler was cracked and leaking so I decided to pull off the cheap muffler that was on there off, I then cut the pipe just before the crack at a angle to direct flow away from the underside of the truck. It sounds pretty good to me and of course my 18 year old thinks its sounds cool too. I was just wondering if there is anything that can affect performance of the truck (not that it's a performance truck) or can it hurt the performance at all? It seems to run the same as before, no better or worse.

It should increase mpg, possibly power. I highly highly doubt the possibility of tickets. I have had my truck straight piped with dual resonators, straight piped to a glass pack, and now a straight pipe to a flowmaster super 40. I have never gotten a ticket because of sound, now im not sure if your area police are more strict than mine or not. As for inspection, i have no idea as fl doesnt have any form of inspection.

No form of inspection in FL? Damn that's nice. Yeah I'm not to worried about the PO PO but I will need to put a muffler back on in about a year before a smog check is due. Was just really concerned if no muffler had any effect besides quieting the noise down, like back pressure issues and things of that nature.

in some states you need some form of spark arrestor , so you might want to check your local laws before you head off road
