3.0 to 22re

I have an 89 and an 85 runner. The 85 is the obvious chioce for crawling, but the body is wasted, and I am at least a little vain. I want duels. Is it cheaper to change shafts and run duels in the 89, or swap motors (by the way the drivetrain in the 85 feels 'new', ie tranny and transfer stick movement)? What would be involved in putting the 22re in the 89 electrically? The fabbing part isn't the issue. Just ease of the electrical end of the swap. Thanks guys.

Bdog.

I did the same thing. Well almost. I had an 88 3.0 truck wanted dual cases but didnt want ot spend the money on shafts, witch are way pricey. So i yanked the v-6 and put in a 22r on propane. The biggest differance is you have to move the mount on the frame. the v6 mount are in a different spot that the 4 popper mounts. They have to be moved to get the 22re to fit in the truck.

Does the 89 have an SAS done on it? Just curious.

I swapped a 22RE into a 1990 3.0L. I don't know if it has the same harness or if they changed it from 89 to 90, but I just left the wiring harness connected to the engine and pulled it through the firewall. I moved the computer over from the 22RE truck to the 3.0 truck and it plugged right in to the harness in the 3.0 truck. Pretty simple electrically.

a real candidate

The two of them would make a hell of a truck. IFS begone!!!! Now I just need to rebuild the motor and cut some motor mounts. Sweet!!! Thanks for the input.

Why don't you just swap bodies?

I dunno

Seems like an awful lot of work involved to swap bodies as opposed to swap a motor. Do we have a lift that I can use to pull the bodies off?

i'd think the body swap would be easier. unbolt it, and get a bunch of friends to help pick it up, and off the old frame. I'm assuming that all the bodymounts would line up properly.

ofcourse the condition of the frame on the 85 is also a concern.
