2nd Gen Runner in the Cold

On cold mornings when I crank up my runner it cranks up to a high idle- about 2.5k. Is this normal? If not fixable? if so- easy or hard to fix? What do i do? should I worry?

On a cold morning here in texas (~50 degrees), my engine idles at 1.5k until it warms up where it idles at about 600rpms (2-3 minutes of driving later).

Mine is at 2k+ in the cold and yes it idles down as the engine warms up. It's kinda creepy though. I have a manual tranny and I can idle the Runner across the parking lot like i got a an automagic. But that can't be good I know...

I've got a manual trans. as well and mine idles accross a parking lot at 900 rpms (which is weird how my engine fluctuates the idle). I'm not sure if it's possible to adjust the cold-start idle, but 2k is definitely high.

new rebuilt too... It's got a bad knock sensor so I wonder if that has something to do with it as that makes the computer run the motor a little more...

Thats about normal for a cold start morning. Not really a way to regulate the cold start injector, on or off.

I asked this question one time...and yes, cold idle can be adjusted...

There's an air valve beneath the throttle body with small coolant lines running to it. The air valve is responsible for the high cold idle - it lowers the idle only when warm.

Couldn't adjust mine, turns out somebody lock-tite the screws which hold the air valve to the throttle body.
