22RET tuning

Anyone have a few tips on making a bit more power with a fuel injected 22RET?

I was thinking of running it at about 10PSI instead of the 6 it makes now but i'm not sure how to check for detonation, pinging, or if i'm leaning it out too far...

Wouldnt mind running a bit higher than 10 btw, just thought 10 was a good first point to start considering its all stock

Oh, and anything I can do for my transmission? It doesnt seem to change gears quite right sometimes (shifts from 2 to 4 then back to 3 at times, goes directly to 3 sometimes when changed from park, and off the line seems to slip sometimes).

Might just need a filter change maybe..

Change your transmission fluid, and add an intercooler

Indeed. Stand alone or something similar. Ask dcg981 about megasquirt also.
If not that upgrade your afm and injectors. That with the intercooler would be a good start. Eventually I would convert to a garret turbo and ditch the ct20. maybe even upgrade the manifold.

FYI: Here's my upgrade solution for my 22R-TE:

-Megasquirt (I finished the harness, just need to install it)
-CT26 turbo (sitting in my garage)
-Intercooler (JZA70 intercooler in my garage)
-7M-GTE 440cc injectors
-Metal head gasket, and ARP head studs.
-3" exhaust.

Ah nuts, now my truck is having issues starting (crank crank crank frank sputter sputter sputter die... repeat several times)... I think I need to change the fuel filter or pump... or something.

What is the adjusting knob on the front of the EFI for?

Very front, has a slot for a flat screwdriver. Turn it all the way down and idle slows down or turn it up and it speeds up.

Could be floats maybe I guess...

oh, the idle speed adjustment screw?
that's all it does- allows more or less air around the throttle in order to control the idle speed.
idle air/fuel mix is controlled by the ECU in accordance with the coolant temp sensor and airflow meter.

If thats what it is, it has very limited adjustment to increase idle. Oh well.

fiddled with the adjustment screw a bit, starts beautifully now.

I guess it has a sweet spot...

you can go about 10 psi i think but you run the risk of hitting fuel cut if you get into it to hard and beleive me if you hit it you'll know every time my truck hits it my head goes to the steering wheel and then to the back glass over and over until i let off
