Hey well do you guys think it will tow with a 99 tacoma 3.4 auto?
If I am luckey maybe I can used my brothers tacoma.

 

The Tacoma would be the way to go, but make sure it's in top shape and maintained properly. Fresh fluids, good brakes, trailer brakes, etc.

 

Oh yea i always check that stuff before I go on a long tripe with any car/truck.

 

I personaly wouldn't do it with a stock 22r...But that's just me....I have a 2.6L 22RE...

22re with 4.10 gears and 31s can barely move itself around. then you're talking about adding a couple 1000 lbs behind it. even if you are managing to pull it along, stopping that much weight would be the major issue in my opinion. if it were me, i'd ditch the heep and take that money and put it towards an fj40 or better yet if you can find one, a bj40 land cruiser. or maybe just rent a vehicle that can easily/safely move it.

 

I wish I could I could buy more toys. But I don't have room for the ones I have now. And when I was thinking about towing the Jeep with my truck. I was going to put the smaller tires on (the p235's).

 

Not to mention the tcase. I have found the the shifter lever warms up noticeably in mine after about an hour and a half on the freeway.


Small town I dont think I would do the tow. That is a LONG way on that little 22.

 

Here is the deal i just towed a pick up home from a little over 100 miles away with my stock 4 Runner pretty much Stock tires with a Tow dolly ( no Brakes).

Now I have a class A CDL been over just about every Mountain Pass in the 48 states I have been driving since 1972.


The Power is what i would expect with a 22REC engine Yes more braking in any vehicle is always good. Here in Eastern Pa we don`t have mountains like the Mountain West But we have some hills that can get you if your not careful"It is not getting up It is getting down!!!!"

That being said I came down the hills in 1st gear for the most never touched the brakes . Don`t get me wrong the line of cars behind me was a site to see . So many impotent people in a hurry to die. Now I avoid interstates like my x-wife. Pretty much all two lane roads.

The Clutch I will say if your rough on a clutch Or are just learning you might have problems if your not sure where your going Find your self at one of those at grade intersections . Where you see the light but that is all the rest of your view is sky

The only real issue is there is not enough weight on the steering axle If I was gonna do this more often I would think of a different type hitch that would pull down more on the center of the truck . Or tractor weights on the front bumper area.

I was pretty close with 400 miles for a day Yes i could make a 2000 mile trip If I really had to do it. Not to just kill something . Also remember an empty trailer rides like crap bounces all over the place you would want some ballast on your way home

 

I said it once and I will say it again. I AM NOT GOING GOING TO TOW THE HEEP TO DAVE'S FARM WITH MY 22RE 5 speed it's not worth risking to me.I am sure I could pull it off with the p235's. But I am sure I will need a new clutch right after. IF I TAKE IT AT ALL I AM GOING TO USE A 99 3.4 TACOMA AUTO TRANS. And thanks for your help guys.
