dwnhiller93: can you turn the engine over by hand, or with the starter?

Was it using any oil before? Do you really think someone would come by and drain it and take the oil with them and not make any kind of mess? Do you have enemies? Is it possible it lost a quart or two over the past few weeks? Why don't you add some oil until it's full and let us know how much it takes?

The engine stalled from idle, it doesn't take much to stall the engine at idle so you might get the engine running again, but it will probably burn oil now.

if you change your oil every 3k miles i doubt it

i would say it would only burn through a few oz. in 3k miles..

look at the filter make sure you dont have 2 orings on the filter.. (you would of noticed all the spraying oil)

i say some punk ass kid drain your oil, i was once a punk ass kid... (i'll leave at that, i've done far worse..)

Thanks for all the responses everyone! Yes, I tried cranking it over once and it acted like the motor was locked up. It would not turn over.

So today, I spent some time with it. I tried turning it over a couple time and it finally cranked over! But it has the sound of a broken timing chain when it is cranking over. So I lucked out with it just being a timing chain!

So I guess it wouldn't crank over the first time sunday was because it had got jammed up in something when it broke maybe? That's the only explanation I have with that.

As for no oil on the dipstick, it does leak a little but not enough to drain all the way where there is no oil on the dipstick. My motor has 274,000 with no rebuild or anything, so maybe the leak got worse without me noticing. Or I just recently started burning oil. Who knows.

i thought that the 22re was a interference engine and if the timing chain broke that the pistons would hit the valves.

that would explain the "locking up"

if it is a broken chain, better pull that head and have a look

I don't always do the smart thing, and it's really not a good thing. But hey, it sounds bad, but I was kinda hoping it was locked up. Poor thing is due for a rebuild.

if you have no oil and you think foul play it could be i had someone steal my valve core out of my new tires i drove home and it was aired up and not low got home at 430 me and my dad were leaving to go eat at 630 and he noticed my tire was flat so i stayed home took my tire off checked for holes with soapy water and no holes so i air up my tire and it sounded weird so i took alook at it and guess what no valve core someone took it i didnt have a valve stem cap it was missing too and two weeks later someone attempted to cut my brake lines first on the driver side and the about a month later on the passenger side they were crimped as if someone tried to cut them but didnt have strong enough to cut all the way through. so i am pretty sure someone would steal your oil

some one could have just needed oil for their own rig and took it. but my bet is that your just burning a bit and probly leaking a fair amount just cause its an old motor
