22re Piston Rings

I got all my parts today from Enginebuilder. I am all ready to start the rebuilod and get the yota up and going this weekend. My only issue is i cannot find a piston ring spreader wrench. Are the rings very weak or will i be able to open them up a bit with my hands to get them on the pistons?

I think Autozone or Advance has a simple spreader for around $5. I use an old flat faced snap ring pliers from Sears. You can walk them on with fingers, if you're careful, but they will likely cut you good.

Unofruntately i went to ALL the local store and none had them. I have a set of snap ring plyers with flat sides, so i could spread them with those. Just want to make sure they are not real brittle for me to break em in half

i'd recommend you look till you find a set of ring pliers, they're cheap, and you need the control for properly installing the rings, or, you might break one, or scratch the piston.
