I don't think an entire 2nd transmission would be worth it. You would be better off installing an overdrive unit onto the output of your transmission to further reduce gearing when needed.

This is essentially what you're doing if you install a 2nd transmission, and switching between 4th and 5th on it.

My brother used to have a separate overdrive unit on his Volvo, attached to the 4 speed manual transmission. You could re-wire it to operate in any gear, allowing you to split all 4 gears, giving you 8 effective gear ratios.

Well there you go, double overdrive and dual t-cases, thats what a total of 40 forward gears and 10 reverse. Have you considered dual engines, you know boats run'm. You boys got potential. Probably could do a whole post on it, perferribly somewhere beside this one. Thanks though.

This may help, but if not I'm licked. Or may be wrong. If according to you, the hot ticket would be to run dual trannies (which is done but not popular) you could put two 5 speed trannies. One tranny turned backwards to step up rotation speeds. Run 5th gear in both and really get your rig moving. You could even do a write up and start a new trend. You may get the gearing set to run your rig with a Briggs and Stratton. Imagine the gas mileage you'd get with such a small engine.

What do you say, are you up to a challenge??
nope.

and I meant dual transfer cases, not transmissions.

and driving two identical manual transmissions in series, output to output shaft, would result in a 1:1 ratio at the far ends, if the same gear is chosen on both, not a step up.

I don't know what the I was thinking. I ordered the header gasket from DT instead of Summit. So for a week and a in half I've been waiting.

DT has a awesome product but crappy customer service, the sales repo outright lied to me. Hell customer service was the only thing pacestter had going for them.

Don't deal with Doug Thorley directly!!! That is why Summit is there for.

I feel better.

Got the exhuast gasket and no more leaks

I'm honestly impressed with the engine install. Still need to dial it in with a gas analyser. Diffenently an improvement over my previous engine, before the knock.

Of course it still a 4 cyl.

Sounds great too.

I'll post MPG's, later after done breaking the engine in.

So far I really like his work. Wheeled this past weekend. Engine performed flawlessly. I really like this set up, for both on road and off, I don't wheel by thottle so the low end torgue is sweet.

Though I could of done with out the body damage we encurred, good times.

Just some mpg's, these are with mud tires. I haven't swapped the A/T's on for a whole tank yet, been wheeling every chance I get. I've always gotten better mpg's with milder tread tires.

highway 19-20mpg
stop and go 14-15mpg

The stop and go is my back and forth to work about 3 miles eachway. So the 4RNR is just warmed up and out of open loop by the time I'm there.

I can tell a big difference in low end torque. Less skinny pedal which gives even greater traction control.

I really like the motor.

Bumping for an update on how your Sunwest long block has held up... i'm shopping for long blocks now and wanted to hear SOMETHING positive. Seems like most long block threads are complaints!
