22Re low compression ? please help

Hi Iam new to the forum i hope i post this in the right place if not please move it thanks. I have a 1991 toyota truck FI 22RE all the cyl has about 50-60psi on compression test. Then I did a leakdown test having them at TDC for each cyl i am losing about 40 percent air on all four cyl and its coming out of the exhaust valve side. The valve adjustment are within specs (in .20mm) and (ex .30mm), and the valves are not bent. I think there burnt.

I was wondering can i also have a problem with the bottom block too? but i dont feel air coming out of the dip stick hole from the leakdown is there any other way to check the bottom block. Because iam going to get the head rebuild. Hopefully that solves my low compression problem. If you need more info let me know thanks for the help.

That is my question? but i Dont feel any leakage from the dip stick hole from the leakdown tester. So is there any other way to check for the piston ring holding pressure ? I am hoping just to rebuild my head to solve the problem if i can diagonis more on the bottom block and if its bad ill replace the whole motor? Any input would be great thanks

You're doing it.. but as you're leaking out the valves bad, there is no way to tell if the rings are going to hold.

My experience has been that some of the remans don't get high quality rings and they tend to fail earlier... A factory motor - the rings should last a long time... There isn't any way to tell until you put it back together and do a leak down.... The cheap insurance way to do it would be to pull the pistons/rods when the head is off, it's only another hour of work or so.

Yeah thats what i thought too because the only to check the rings are when they there out of the block. Well iam going to get my head rebuild today and probably go ahead and swap the rings and get the walls hone.... Thanks for the advice dcg9381
