22re issues after rebuild......

I have a 93 4runner with a 22re. It threw a rod bearing so i tore it down and rebuilt it. Finally got it back in and now im having some issues with it. Whats happening is:
When cold it starts and idles perfectly. No backfire or anything and it revs like normal. BUT when driving, under a load it has absolutely NO power at all. It runs like crap but only under a load. If you push on the gas more it backfires some. After it idled for awhile and we drove it around the block it started to idle funny.

Initially i thought the dizzy was off a tooth or something so we tried adjusting that but didnt really change anything. Its not throwing any codes......
Im in desperate need of some help here

what's your base timing .then what does it go to when you remove the jumper wire for base timing mode?mine won't trip into base mode so I had to just go by initial timing . at first it wouldn't get out of it's own way , then I put it to 12 degrees for initial with jumpers removed.10 degrees advance made a giant difference. but your issues could be different let me know.good luck

my 22re had a very specific dowel on the cam to line up the sprocket.it would be a little hard to install it the wrong way, but yes the the 0 degree notch should line up with number 1 position under the rotor cap at TDC.

From: Cincinnati, Ohio - Amelia is the exact place. There is no one else on this site from where I am. Seems like everyone is from Cali or Washington. I guess I need to move.
make sure the throttle cable nuts, on the side of the intake are adjusted right, and the nut on the throttle body is set correctly. Is the distributor set to low? It kind of takes a fine mix of the three to get it right.

Throttle cable seems to be set right. When its not under a load it idles and revs up like it should. When i rev it up theres no lag or anything, it feels normal. Its when its under load and you give it gas it just barely moves. By distributor too low do you mean too far clockwise?

You would have needed to use a jumper to set your timing in the first place. Check your timing first. Almost sounds like an electrical problem to me

x2 on the jumper. That definitely sounds like the prob to me. You need to set the timing to 5d BTDC with your diagnosis box contacts jumped from TE to E1--It's right by your fuse box under the hood. After you're done adjusting, unhook the jumper. It should be about 12d BTDC on idle.

to advance the timing you turn it counterclockwise if your looking at the top of the distributor.i'm still learning too ,don't feel bad.private message me if you have more questions.

It would not run if it was 180* out. Probably need to set timing per specs, let me know if you need directions.

Yes, check your TPS, otherwise you won't be able to set the timing properly.
