22re ground points

Hey all,

I am trying to troubleshoot electrical problems on my 22re, want to clean all the ground points to eliminate that as a potential problem. Can anyone list out the points? I know there is one by the battery and one by the coil.

Thanks in advance

on mine i have a ground wire going from the valve cover to the fire wall, from the block to the battery and from the battery to the fender. so what are your symptoms anyways?

Theres e on the valve cover? Anyone have pictures of it, becuase I don't remember seeing it.

As far as symptoms go, sometimes it acts like it has a dead battery, but the battery is fine. Checked all connectons on the battery and that isn't the problem. When I turn on my turn signal the tach jumps up and down in sync with the blinker, and the lights will go dim sometimes when I am driving.

Weird things is all of these things aren't consistent, the truck will do it somedays and not others.

From: Cincinnati, Ohio - Amelia is the exact place. There is no one else on this site from where I am. Seems like everyone is from Cali or Washington. I guess I need to move.
The one on the valve cover is right by the oil plate on the back top of the block. Some people have it mounted to that, I put mine on top of the valve cover. You should see the wire there not hooked to anything unless its completely off the firewall.

Starts just fine sometimes, other times it will just click like the battery is dead.

Look for bulges in the wire insulation. I had a similar problem...no real obvious corrosion visible on battery connections, but about an inch back from the battery clamps I noticed a bulge...kind of looked like a snake that had just ate a rat. I stripped the insulation back and found that typical "white powder" corrosion...it had surrounded a bunch of the individual strands and crippled the electrical flow enough to make problems. Installed a new battery clamp and was good to go.

yeah i have a wire from the valve cover to the firewall, its like 10 gauge i think, im not sure how nessicary it really is, but it was there when i bought the truck so it might as well keep a wire there. What you describe does remind me of when my grounds went to crap, my tach would jump all over and my temp gauge would bounce to the beat of my music. that sort of thing. i would just replace all the grounds you have with new cable, like 2 gauge or 4 gauge or something like that

lol i did the same thing, with part of my wiring at least lol.

never seen a ground wire by the coil, as long as the rest of the grounds are in place you shouldnt have any issues, at least related to grounds

I have a 94' Toyota pickup and smoked all of the grounding wires .... there's 4 that I have found and I'll add a couple more for safety's sake ... firewall to the head in the rear, battery to inner fender, lower intake in the middle of, rear of power steering to it gotta look for where it goes to, lol ... and alternator to harness into the drivers side under the air box ... sincerely, DashesWelding@gmail.com

Just what pray tell did you do that caused this carnage ??

There are quite a few ground points on the truck left and right door posts

some up under the dash

If I had the EWD for that year I could locate them all

If you had a surge that bad I would hope your ECU is not cooked as well
