22re fuel pump issue
#22
Another new pump, maybe? A entire new pump hanger assembly, perhaps?
87 is right. Always something. That's why we love em. Make us think, and work on them all the time. Learn all the little quirks, and tricks, too. Not just a "truck" that sits in the driveway, that you only ever get in and drive. After a while, you KNOW your truck, inside and out, top to bottom. The slightest little thing goes wrong, we POUNCE on it
Good luck to you!

Hello Everyone! I have a 1989 4x4 Xtra cab 22RE and I've had it since 91 it has like 140k miles and I got a newer car about 5 years ago and the poor Yota got parked. I went to move it one day and nada, it would run on starting fluid but not on its own seems the fuel pump had given up the ghost. Being almost 70. the thought of laying on my back dropping the gas tank didn't sound like fun so I pulled the bed. Anyway I was reading all these old posts and it seems that Denso 950-0150 Fuel Pump and Strainer set was the desired pump. However it seems that this has been Discontinued and so my question is are there any new preferred pumps as I really don't want to do this again if I don't have to.
Thanks for any replies

I looked at that and that's the type of kit I'm looking for however, it seems to be listed for a TOYOTA PICKUP 1992-1995 and I'm not familiar enough to what can be interchanged. It seems that one has the plug that supplies power where as the pictures for the 89 pump shows it having the 2 post terminals ( I haven't pulled mine out yet maybe tomorrow as its supposed to rain all day here) if it's just a question of getting the plug and changing the way that the power is supplied , I'm not opposed to that as long as the plug is available and it fits the pump hanger.
Thanks again

Well it stopped raining so I pulled the Fuel sending unit and the fuel pump. While the outside of the tank looks factory fresh, still showing the production line chalk numbers on the tank, the inside is another story. I have pictures but am unsure how to add them but suffice to say its bad. The pump I have is the type with the two terminals not the plug type. However its looking to me like a complete change of fuel tank and the pump hanger so this may allow me to be able to get a later model tank and pump hanger which would allow me to get the still available Denso pump kits. I am hoping that I can gain insight as to the direction to go from the people here that have much more experience with these things than I do.
My next thing is to drain the tank and figure out what to do with half a tank of horrible fuel. Then probably drop the tank.
Thanks in advance for any insight and/or advice you may have.
