i have an 87 pickup 22r and i need a 3 port vacuum switch as mine is broke. its the brown one with 3 ports, not the blue one with 2 ports that is more common. the blue one opens when engine is hot and the brown one has one port open when cold and then when engine warms the other one opens. it is used to control AAP on carb (cold) and choke opener (hot). i cant find a replacement anywhere and im not paying big bucks at the dealer. has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? does toyota have a 2 port switch that opens when cold, opposite of the common blue ones? what about newer ones that were electronic? ive seen ones on late 80's/early 90's that had two ports and a harness input. what controlled those switches, the temp sensor? was there one that opens when cold and one that opens when hot? i know the truck will run with out that switch but i am replacing my weber with the stock carb (to see if i can get better results) and i want to do it right. which means i want the aap and choke to work as designed. thanks for any input!

 

I think you're describing the BVSV valve? Might have your best luck at a junkyard. I've never broken one but I am on my second fuel cutoff solenoid and it seems for parts carb related junkyard is our last gasp.

 

yeah ive also seen them called tvsv (thermostatic vacuum switching valve). i have a few of the blue 2 port ones and i have seen a bunch of those since they are more common but the brown 3 port one is hard to find and sure enough thats the one that i need! i would like to find some other ways to fix this because the junk yard parts won't last forever.

 

Search "De-smogging an early 22r" and u can get rid of 75% plus of your vacuum lines

 

i have been "de-smogged" for years but what i am asking doesn't involve emissions. i am trying to figure out how to get vacuum to my choke and AAP as the carb intended. the aap delivers extra fuel to carb when engine is cold. i can use the standard two port blue bvsv to get vacuum to choke opener when engine is hot but how do i get vacuum to the AAP only when engine is cold? any suggestions?

You're right junkyard is a used part but in all fairness the brown 3 port dingy you speak of is a rare bit to break. Unlike a PCV valve ive noticed the plastic isnt as brittle (even at 25yrs old!)

Isnt there one that works in conjunction with the EGR valve? I'm not going outside to look at my motor, and since my house was robbed 2 months ago (computer stolen) I dont have any of my Toyota info anymore, so i cant look at ref pics i had. But I could swear theres a 3 port brown guy behind the carb somewhere that i disconnected. Or maybe I didn't and the thing im thinking of is the same guy you speak of?

 

And nearly 6 years after this post, I am looking for a tvsv also. part number 90925-02069, discontinued part of course. Any info or lead would be appreciated. thanks

 

Thread necro aside, I've found the AAP to cause more problems than it fixes. As long as you don't gun it when the engine is cold(which shouldn't be done anyway) the AAP is useless. I also have no FCS, and the CB/CO are disconnected as well.
